How to set up ranking levels
Categorise students by performance (e.g. Passed with Distinction, Passed, Failed, Absent) using marks and subject-count rules.
Ranking levels categorise students by their performance in subjects or in a whole course, for example Passed with Distinction, Passed, Failed and Absent.
Set up ranking levels
- Go to Menu → Academics → Examination → Settings → Ranking Levels.
- Select the course the ranking levels apply to.
- In the Name field, enter the name of the ranking level.
- In the Marks (%) field, enter the marks percentage.
- Choose the marks limit type:
- Upper – students scoring below this percentage qualify.
- Lower – students scoring at or above this percentage qualify.
- Exact – students scoring exactly this percentage qualify.
- Enter the number of subjects required for this ranking level.
- Choose the subject limit type:
- Upper – at most this number of subjects must meet the marks condition.
- Lower – at least this number of subjects must meet the marks condition.
- Exact – exactly this number of subjects must meet the marks condition.
- Select Consider all previous batches? if the ranking level should also apply to students of previous batches.
- Click Save.
- Arrange the ranking levels using the arrow icons. The system checks ranking levels in order, so the right order prevents a student from being placed in more than one level.
To change or remove a ranking level, click Edit or Delete.
Example
| Ranking level | Marks (%) | Marks limit type | Subjects | Subject limit type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Passed with Distinction | 80 | Lower | 3 | Lower |
| Passed | 50 | Lower | 3 | Lower |
| Failed | 50 | Upper | 1 | Lower |
| Absent | 0 | Exact | 1 | Lower |
With these settings, students are categorised as follows:
- Passed with Distinction – 80% or more in at least 3 subjects.
- Passed – 50% or more in at least 3 subjects.
- Failed – less than 50% in at least 1 subject.
- Absent – exactly 0% in at least 1 subject.
