How to import data from a CSV file into myschool
Step-by-step guide to preparing a CSV file in a spreadsheet editor and importing it into myschool.
The Custom Import module lets you add data to myschool in bulk using CSV (comma-separated values) files. You can edit these files with any spreadsheet program, including free tools such as LibreOffice Calc.
Step 1: Create a custom export structure
Go to Menu → Data and Reports → Custom Imports and click New.
Step 2: Select the model and configure it
Select the model (data type) you want to import. Click Additional Detail if you want to include the model’s additional fields.

Step 3: Export the CSV template
After saving, find your custom import in the list and click Export CSV to download the template. The other actions are:
- Import data — upload a new file.
- Delete — remove the export.
- Imports — view the history of previous imports.

Open the exported CSV file in your spreadsheet program. Make sure the delimiter is Comma and the character set is Unicode (UTF-8) — this is essential for Arabic text to import correctly.

Enter your data following the required formats (see Custom import mandatory fields).
Note: You can upload a maximum of 200 records per import.
Step 6: Create a new import
Click Imports, then New. Upload your file and refresh the page to follow the status of the background job.
Import status messages
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Success | The import completed without issues. |
| Completed with errors | Some records failed because of formatting problems or missing mandatory fields. |
| Failed | There is a problem with the file format or CSV structure. |
Additional notes
You can import more data for the same model at any time by clicking Imports → New — there is no need to create the export again.
Tip: Test with a few sample records first to avoid data errors.
