What is the formula to calculate CWA
How the Cumulative Weighted Average (CWA) is calculated from subject credit hours and marks, with a worked example.
CWA (Cumulative Weighted Average) weights each subject’s mark by the subject’s credit hours.
Formula
CWA = Sum (Subject credit hours × Mark %) ÷ Sum (Subject credit hours)
Worked example
| Subject | Credit hours | Marks (%) |
|---|---|---|
| Financial Accounting | 3 | 77 |
| Business Mathematics | 3 | 85 |
- Sum (Subject credit hours × Mark %) = (3 × 77) + (3 × 85) = 231 + 255 = 486
- Sum (Subject credit hours) = 3 + 3 = 6
- CWA = 486 ÷ 6 = 81
Tip: Credit hours are set per subject. See How to set up subject credit hours.
