How to create timetables for courses with different durations
How to set up timetables when some courses run by semester and others by trimester or other lengths.
Example: an institution offers two course types:
- Course X: semester-based, 6 months.
- Course Y: trimester-based, 3 months.
Because the system creates timetables for all courses together, do this:
- Start with the shorter course: create a 3-month timetable and allocate course Y’s subjects.
- Add the longer course: in the same timetable, allocate course X’s subjects.
- Create the next timetables: after 3 months, create a new timetable for course Y’s next trimester and continue course X in it with the same entries.
Rule: always base the timetable on the shortest duration. This works for two or more courses of different lengths.
