About SMS package management

What an SMS package contains and who can create and assign SMS packages to schools.

1 min read Last updated: 30 September 2026

Most schools use SMS to communicate with students, parents and employees. Once myschool is connected to an SMS service (such as myschool SMS), schools can use the SMS module to send text messages and to deliver automatic notifications when certain events occur.

SMS settings are organised into SMS packages. An SMS package consists of:

  • Package details – such as the service provider name, message limit and package validity.
  • SMS configuration settings – the connection parameters and their values.

Who can create and assign SMS packages?

Account administrators – the administrators of a myschool account that manages one or more schools – can create SMS packages and assign them to the individual schools under their account.

Note: Schools can no longer simply inherit the account’s SMS configuration (the Inherit SMS settings checkbox has been removed). An SMS package must be assigned to each school instead.
